Our Goal

Our goal is to examine Maine culture, identity and social environments to gain a critical understanding of the factors at work in men's lives.

* For Mainers to think critically about themselves and their social environment

* For Mainers to have an understanding of the institutions in our society

* For Mainers to think critically about their culture

* For Mainers to understand that factors at work in their identity and masculinity

* To raise awareness about subordinate masculinities in Maine

* To raise awareness about violence

"When we ask men to reject sexism and the abuse of women, we are not taking something away from them.  In fact, we are giving them something very valuable - a vision of manhood that does not depend on putting down others in order to lift itself up.  When a man stands up for social justice, non-violence, and basic human rights - for women as much as for men - he is acting in the best traditions of our civilization.  That makes him not only a better man, but a better human being."
