The Journey

This is the beginning.

This project will be unlike anything I've seen about Maine.  As we start out on the road to eventually completing this project, I feel good.  I didn't know what I was getting into when I took my first women and gender studies course at the University of Maine.  What I've gained is the mental, emotional, and spiritual tools to critically assess my identity and my culture.  So I'm taking my local and global studies and bringing it home to Maine.
What are the factors in the creation of male identity in Maine?  What dominant and subordinate masculinities do we see at work?  And also, how is male identity shaped socially, culturally?
I'm starting out with a lot of questions.  Eventually I hope to find some answers deeper questions.  I think, when this is all said and done, if our readers come away with more questions than they started with, the blog as been a success.
     See you on the net.
